New Director Joins EASF
EASF has received a new Director, Brig Paul Kahuria Njema, who takes over from Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa who has served as EASF’s Director from 2020. The handover ceremony took place at the EASF Secretariat in Karen Nairobi on 19th May 2023 and was attended by among others, the Chairperson of Friends of EASF, the EASF management team and EASF staff.
The Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Defence in Kenya Hosts Outgoing and Incoming EASF Directors
The Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Hon. Aden Duale, on the 18th May 2023, hosted the incoming Director of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Brigadier Paul Kahuria Njema who paid him a courtesy visit at Defence Headquarters in Nairobi. Brigadier Njema was also accompanied by the outgoing Director Brigadier General Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa.
Outgoing and Incoming Director Handover In Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) incoming Director, Brig Paul Kahuria Njema, visited the Structures of EASF based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia that include the Force HQs and Logistics Base accompanied by the outgoing Director, Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa, and the Head of Administration and Finance, Col Mohamed Barkat Aden for the Office handover function.
Meeting with the Chief of the General Staff of Ethiopia National Defence Forces
The Chief of the General Staff of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, hosted the Management of Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) for a Meeting on the 16th May 2023, at Defence Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The new Director, Brig Paul Kahuria Njema, expressed appreciation to the outgoing Director, Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa, for the smooth handover process of EASF Directorship.

The President of the Union of Comoros, H.E Azali Assoumani had an audience, on 16th May, 2023 at African Union Compound in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with the new Director of Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF), Brig Paul Kahuria Njema.

EASF Participates in the High Level Ministerial Meeting on Youth, Peace and Security
The third High-Level Ministerial Conference on the Role of Governments, Regional Economic Communities and Regional Mechanisms in Promoting the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda was officially inaugurated by H.E Ezéchiel Nibigira, Minister of East African Community Affairs, Youth, Sports and Culture, on Tuesday 9th May 2023 at the Kiriri Gardens in Bujumbura, Burundi.
Message of Solidarity from EASF on the Recent Natural Disaster in Rwanda and Uganda.
The Eastern Africa Standby Force fraternity joins the rest of the countries in sending a message of resilience and solidarity to the President and the People of Rwanda and Uganda following the recent natural calamity of severe flooding and landslides causing loss of lives, properties and damage to infrastructures. The EASF fraternity is deeply saddened by such calamity affecting two of our Member States, Rwanda and Uganda.
