The Director EASF
Brigadier Paul Kahuria Njema EBS (NDC) is the Director of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Secretariat. His appointment took effect on 10th May 2023 and will run for a period of three (3) years. He is a national of the Republic of Kenya, one of the ten (10) EASF Member States.
Before his current appointment, Brig Njema served as the Commandant of the Kenya Prisons Hospital (Magereza Hospital) since 20th July 2022. He has 37 years of experience in service with Kenya Defence Forces.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Disaster Management and International Diplomacy from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, a Diploma in Security and strategic studies from the National Defence College of Tanzania and a Diploma in Strategic Studies from the Institute of Diplomacy and International Studies, University of Nairobi.
Brig Njema held several key leadership positions among them, Commandant School of Infantry, Commandant Recruits Training School, a Principal Staff Officer in charge of personnel at the Defence Headquarters, and a Commander Infantry Brigade.
He has also served in several UN and AU Peace Support Operations in the former Yugoslavia, Sudan and Somalia. He was a member of the African Union Technical Committee that reviewed the Peace Support Operation Standing Orders that was done in 2019 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
