EASF Participates in AU's Training Implementation Workshop
The Eastern Africa Standby Force is taking part in a four day Training Implementation Workshop (TIW) which was organized by the African Union and rolled out on 23rd October 2018 at the Stanley Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.
The African Standby Force (ASF) Training Implementation Workshop (TIW) is an annual stock-taking activity on training and capacity development of the ASF. Its main aim is to coordinate and harmonize training activities with Regional Economic Communities and Regional Mechanisms (RECs/RMs) as well as coordination with Training Centres of Excellence and Institutions (TCEs/TIs) in accordance with the ASF Training Policy and Directives.
The annual workshop also offers the opportunity to engage with partners on the harmonization of funding for continental and regional training activities and renew Annual Training Directives that guide training focus and priorities at Continental, Regional and Member States levels.
Welcoming the participants to the workshop, the EASF Director Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh expressed his appreciation to the African Union and the Kenyan Government for agreeing to host the annual workshop in Nairobi, the home of the EASF Secretariat. Dr. Bouh underscored the importance of relevant training in creation and maintenance of adequate peace-keeping capacities, able to respond to crises in the region and beyond when called to do so at any given time.
The workshop, being attended by all the five Standby Forces as well as Training Centres of Excellence and Institutions on the continent, comes to an end on Friday 26th October 2018.
