Category: News

The EASF Director Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Defence Staff of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia General Seare Mekonnen at the Defence Headquarters in Addis Ababa, on 4th October 2018.

During the visit, Dr. Bouh congratulated General Mekonnen on his new appointment and updated him on the progress the Standby Force has been making ever since its inception in 2004. One of the most notable developments has been in the field of personnel capacity building in form of numerous trainings supported by practical Field Training as well as Command Post Exercises. Such endeavors ensure that the Standby Force is always ready to deploy should it be mandated to do so by the African Union at any given time.

The Director was accompanied by the EASF Force Commander Brigadier General Alaadin Osman Mirghani and an officer from the EASF Logistics' Base in Addis Ababa.

Dr. Bouh expressed his conviction that the appointment of General Mekonnen will add enormous value to regional peace and stability. As the Chief of Defence Staff, General Mekonnen will be taking part in EASF's Policy Organs' Meetings which draw operational strategies and plans to be implemented by the EASF Secretariat.
