EASF Force Headquarters Commemorates 15 Years’ Existence

A commemorative event to mark the EASF’s 15 years was conducted at the EASF Force Headquarters and Logistics' Base in Addis Ababa on Friday 04th October, 2019. The Eastern Africa Standby Force turns 15 this year.

EASF was established in July 2004 as a regional mechanism to provide capability for rapid deployment of forces to carry out preventive deployment, rapid intervention, peace support operations and peace enforcement. The establishment of EASF is based on the past experiences of conflict in Africa, such as the act of genocide, wars and conflicts in the region.

During the 15 years’ commemorative event, the Director of the EASF Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh pointed out the various achievements of the EASF and how the organization is now repositioning itself in the promotion of peace and security.

On his part, the representative of the EASF Chairperson spoke about the importance of EASF as a regional standby force and the current status of the EASF as the AU continental standby force.

During the ceremony, gifts of appreciation were presented to the AU representative, Turkish Embassy and representative from the Egyptian Embassy. The commemorative event was attended by Diplomatic corps, members of the EASF Experts Working Group, EASF management staff and Defence Attaché.
