Mogadishu, Somalia – 18 July 2025 – The 34th Ordinary Session of the Eastern Africa Committee of Chiefs of Defense and Security (EACDS) concluded today in Mogadishu, Somalia, following a series of successful deliberations focused on strengthening regional peace and security.

 The session culminated in the signing of the final report by the Chiefs of Defense and Security, officially transferring responsibilities to the next tier of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Policy Organs. This handover marks a significant milestone in the progression of the 34th Policy Organs Meetings.

The baton now passes to the Council of Ministers of Defense and Security of the Eastern Africa region, which will convene for its 34th Ordinary Session tomorrow, 19 July 2025.

In his remarks, the Chairperson of the closing session, General MK Mubarakh, Chief of Defense Staff of Rwanda, highlighted the importance of the meeting in shaping the strategic direction of EASF.

“It is indeed an honor and a privilege to have gathered here for this important meeting, focused on key issues affecting our region,” he said. “The session was well conducted, and your unreserved contributions ensured its success. I particularly commend the Federal Republic of Somalia for graciously hosting us, a gesture that symbolizes the resilience and progress being made on the path toward stability and recovery.”

Somalia’s Deputy Chief of Defense, Brigadier General Madey Nurey Sheikh, welcomed all delegations and reaffirmed Somalia’s strong commitment to regional cooperation and peacebuilding.

EASF Director, Brigadier (Rtd) Paul Kahuria Njema, also praised Somalia for hosting the event. “It is a privilege and honor to witness the successful conclusion of this session as part of the 34th Policy Organs Meeting of the Eastern Africa Standby Force,” he stated.

“On behalf of the EASF fraternity, I sincerely thank you all for honoring our invitation and attending this vital meeting. I also extend deep appreciation to the government and people of the Federal Republic of Somalia for their continued hospitality and warm welcome throughout our stay.”

The 34th EASF Policy Organs Meetings will continue in Mogadishu through 19 July 2025.
