Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

The Eastern Africa Standby Force launched a Map Exercise Planning Course designed to run from 9th to 13th October 2017 at the EASF Logistics' Base in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The course aims at training military logistics' officers from EASF Member States on all aspects of International Movement Control (MOVCON) such as planning, reception, staging, integration and onwards movement. The training also aims at addressing logistics in Peace Support Operations (PSOs) with a revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) coming up with an acceptable tool kit which can be used to test effectiveness at different levels.

At the same time, the Norwegian Armed Forces are conducting a United Nations Movement Planning Course which was planned to run from 9th to 19th October 2017 also at the EASF Logistics' Base in Addis Ababa.

The course aims at training civilian, police and military officers from EASF Member States on the UN Movement Planning System which will then enable the participants to take part in deployment, sustainment, rotation and re-deployment planning for National Militaries or Formed Police Units (FPUs) assigned to an UN Mission. The focus on the UN System is an added advantage for personnel who could be engaged in  UN Missions in the future.
