African Union Extraordinary Summit on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Government
AU conducted its Extraordinary Summit on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes (UCG) in Africa on 28 May 2022, in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. The objective of the summit was to assess persistent threats, evaluate current response mechanisms, and decide on the specific actions and measures necessary to strengthen the collective security of Member States facing terrorism and violent extremism. The objective of the summit also includes, among other issues, deliberation on the recommendations in the Accra Declaration on Unconstitutional Changes of Government in Africa emanating from the AU Reflection Forum, held on 15-17 March 2022 in Accra, Ghana.
EASF Conducts Tree Planting in Burundi
EASF conducted Tree Planting in the Bujumbura Province of Burundi, on 25 May 2022, as part of the Youth for Peace Project. The major objective of the event was to promote and sensitive the youth of the EASF Member States on two key messages, viz.: protecting the environment and promoting peace.
Youth for Peace project kicks off in Burundi
A group of 50 youth people gathered in Bujumbura, Burundi to discuss on the AU continental framework on youth, peace and security. The main objective of the program is to dissuade youth from violent actions and facilitate their meaningful participation in all spectrums of peace and security in Africa. In this regard, the program finalized the Continental Framework on Youth Peace and Security and its ten Year implementation plan which were adopted by the AU PSC in 2020. The Guest of Honor from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in Burundi, Mr. Syldie Manirerekana opened the youth conference in the presence of the youths from EASF member states, government officials from the host nation and EASF management team
Somalia Presidential Election Transparent But With High Security Threats
The EASF Election Observer Mission issued its preliminary statement, in Mogadishu on Monday 16th May after the new Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud won with 214 votes against former President, Mr Abudallahi Farmajo with 110 votes.
Official Launching of the EASF-EOM to Somalia
EASF Election Observer Mission to the Federal Republic of Somalia was launched on 14th May, 2022 in Mogadishu, Somalia. The Presidential election is fundamental to the political situation in the Federal Republic of Somalia where the presidential election was delayed by 15 months. The Speaker of the recently elected Parliament has confirmed that voting will take place on 15th May as scheduled.
EASF to observe Somalia Presidential Election
The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) announces the arrival of its election observation mission (EOM) for the Presidential Election in the Federal Republic of Somalia. The Director of the Eastern Africa Standby Force, Brigadier General Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa, accepted the invitation from the host country, the Federal Republic of Somalia and consequently has deployed the mission (EOM) to observe and report on the conduct of the presidential election due to take place on 15th May, 2022.

EASF’s political Officer, Ali Said Ali met with the Somali Parliament Hon. Adan Mohamed Noor (Madoobe) on Sunday 8th April to discuss deployment and accreditation of EASF observers to the forthcoming presidential elections in the Federal Republic of Somalia.
EASF Completes Workshop on Organizational Review
EASF held a workshop from 4th to 6th of May 2022, whose aim was to conduct an organizational review in order to undertake an in-depth analysis of current organizational functions. Considering that current EASF structures have been in operation since 2014, the environment in which the EASF operates has tremendously changed.
EASF Concludes Panel of Elders Induction Workshop
The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) concluded its three-day Panel of Elders Induction Workshop on 29 April 2022. The Guest of Honor at the Closing Ceremony was the Chairperson of the EASF Council of Ministers of Defence and Security, H.E. Dr Abraham Belay, who is also the Minister of Defence of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
Integrated Mission Planning Course Ends In The Land of A Thousand Hills
The Eastern Africa Standby Force Integrated Mission Planning Course (IMPC) closing ceremony was held on Friday 29th April 2022 in Musanze, Rwanda with 28 participants from EASF’s member states successfully completing the 10-day training course.
