EASF Flags off its Election Observer Mission to Rwanda
The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) has officially commenced its Election Observer Mission (EOM) to be deployed in the Republic of Rwanda in preparation for the 2024 election.
The flagging-off ceremony occurred on Tuesday, 9th July 2024, at the Secretariat in Karen, Nairobi, where the EASF Director, Brig Gen (Rtd) Paul Kahuria Njema, presided over the event.
During the ceremony, the Head of the Mission, Ambassador Kennedy Mokaya handed over the mission plan to the EASF Director Brig Gen (Rtd) Paul Kahuria Njema and received the EASF flag.
In his address, the director reiterated EASF's commitment to promoting democracy, stability, and transparency in Eastern Africa and emphasized the organization's dedication to ensuring calm and fair elections in Rwanda.
Ambassador, Kennedy Mokaya, the Head of the Mission, expressed readiness for the upcoming election observation mission in Rwanda with an approved plan.
Additionally, Deputy Head of the Mission, EASF head of police component, Bacar Ali Said, revealed that 21 observers from EASF will be deployed in 10 teams to cover at least 170 polling stations across various towns and cities in Rwanda. He emphasized that all EASF member states are represented in the mission.
