EASF Begins After-Action Review of “Bahari Salama” Maritime Exercise in Djibouti
Djibouti City, 18 October 2025 – The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) has officially launched a three-day After-Action Review (AAR) following the successful completion of the regional maritime command post exercise “Bahari Salama”.
Held at the Escale Hotel in Djibouti City, the review brings together military leaders, planners, observers, and technical experts from across Eastern Africa to reflect on the lessons learned from the 18-day operation.
EASF Director, Brig. Gen. (Rtd.) Paul Kahuria Njema, emphasized the importance of the review in improving future responses to maritime threats. “This is the stage where we pause, reflect, and grow. It’s not about blame, it’s about learning and preparing for tomorrow,” he said.
The exercise, codenamed “Bahari Salama 1” tested the region’s ability to respond to complex maritime security challenges through joint planning, coordination, and command.
Exercise Director, Brig. Mohamed Shemote, urged participants to remain open, objective, and focused during the review process.
“Every contribution is valuable. The insights shared here will shape future operations and strengthen our readiness as a region,” he said.
Both leaders highlighted the importance of realistic scenarios used during the exercise to test operational coordination and improve response strategies.
The AAR continues until 20 October, and is expected to produce key recommendations for strengthening maritime CPX, regional cooperation, and rapid response capacity across Eastern Africa.
EASF thanks all member states, planners, observers, and support teams for their dedication and professionalism throughout the exercise and review.
