Djibouti Minister for Defence, Honorable Hassan Omar Mohamed Bourhan on 7th October 2019 in Djibouti city.

The aim of the visit was to update Honorable Mohamed Bourhan on the recent milestones which the Standby Force has accomplished in the recent past. The delegation also sought to inform the Minister of the steps EASF has undertaken, to ensure that it can deploy its forces anywhere on the continent if tasked to do so by the African Union, now that the regional peace-keeper is the continental Standby Force up to 31st December 2019.

The Djibouti Defence Forces have a security arm called the Djibouti National Gendarmerie which is in charge of public safety, with police duties among the civilian population. As such, the Ministry of Defence works closely with the Ministry of Interior in matters of peace an security in the region. The Djibouti Coast Guard also plays a vital role in combating illicit traffic along the Gulf of Aden.

The EASF delegation informed the Minister about the recent staff rotations within the organization in line with the endorsed Rotation Matrix.
