EASF Maritime Command Post Exercise "Bahari Salama 1" Enters Day Two
DJIBOUTI, October 8, 2025 – The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) has entered the second day of its Maritime Command Post Exercise, codenamed Bahari Salama 1, currently being conducted in Djibouti. The exercise is based on a fictional scenario set in the Republic of Carana, a notional country used to simulate a complex maritime security environment.
The training aims to enhance the EASF's operational readiness and coordination in response to maritime threats and regional crises.
Participants engaged in a series of mission tasks on Wednesday designed to address instability and insecurity at sea within the Carana scenario. The simulation includes combating maritime criminal elements, restoring state authority in contested regions, and facilitating humanitarian access.
Heads of operational cells received a detailed briefing from the EASF Head of Mission, Mr. Kedir Abobulgu, who outlined the mission’s strategic objectives.
“My intent is to ensure maritime security for Carana’s sea, revive economic activities by neutralizing maritime criminal actors and armed non-state actors, and support the re-establishment of state authority in the Leppko Province to facilitate humanitarian access, thereby setting conditions for sustainable peace in the Republic of Carana,” said Mr. Kedir.
He further urged all participants to work in harmony and approach the simulation with the seriousness and professionalism of a real-world mission.
Although Carana is a fictional country, Bahari Salama 1 reflects real operational challenges faced in maritime security, making the exercise a critical component in preparing EASF forces for future deployments.
