Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

EASF Spokesperson Training Starts

The two days’ spokesperson training for the management of the EASF started on 13th September 2018 in Naivasha, Kenya.

The focus of the training is to enhance the capability and competency of the participants in undertaking the roles and functions of

spokespersons for EASF and provide EASF Senior Staff with skills to effectively deliver time-critical information to various stakeholders as well as the general public.

In his opening remarks the Director of EASF Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh said ‘’the training is an essential element of EASF Communication and Advocacy Strategy 2015 – 2017 and it comes at a time when EASF has attained full operational capability, ready for deployment as may be mandated according to the African Union deployment scenarios’’

The Director noted that the training will provide the participants with public information capacity to perform spokesperson’s duties in future peace support deployments and other forums. ‘’We therefore greatly appreciate the objectives of this training and hope that it will help prepare us to be able to portray EASF and its work positively and accurately when tasked to perform the spokesperson’s role in the future’’ he added.

Dr. Bouh thanked the Danish Government for financially supporting the training as well as the IRIS Media for providing the training package. The content included specific message development, television and radio interviews, press conference management and how to work with the media especially in a peace support mission.

The training will end on Friday 14th September 20018.
