EASF to open Headquarters in Ethiopia

State Minister for Foreign Affairs signing the MOU with the EASF Director

 Addis Ababa, February 1, 2016 (FBC) - Ethiopia has signed an agreement to host the headquarters   of Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) today.

The agreement was signed between State Minister for Foreign Affairs Taye Atsekesilasse and EASF Director, Ambassador Chanfi Issmail.

After the signing of the agreement, Spokesperson for Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tewolde Mulugeta told journalists that Ethiopia has been working tirelessly for the establishment of the standby force. The host agreement signed between the two parties will support the enhancement of collective security in the region and international peace, he added.

According to him, Ethiopia has been contributing a lot in the highly volatile region. It has been involved in many peace keeping tasks and missions. The agreement to host EASF is part of this lofty mission, the spokesperson said.

Director of the Eastern Africa Standby Force Chanfi Issimail reportedly said on his part Ethiopia has been committed and determined to support EASF starting from its establishment. Established in July 2004, the EASF has been contributing to African peace and security.
