Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

EASF Launches Training of Trainers Course for Formed Police Units

The Police Component of the Eastern Africa Standby Force rolled out a Training of Trainers (ToT) course for Formed Police Units (FPUs) at the Gishari Police Training School in Rwanda on Monday 2nd October 2017. This course, designed

for officers from EASF Member States who have pledged FPUs, will close on 27th October 2017.

The course aims to develop the trainers’ capacity by giving them requisite knowledge that will enable them to conduct FPU training in their respective Member States.

During the opening ceremony, the EASF Head of Police Component, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dinah Kyasiimire underscored the importance of Training of Trainers owing to the crucial role FPUs play in Peace Support Operations (PSOs). Some of these roles include provision of security support to UN/AU operations by ensuring the safety and security of UN/AU personnel and assets. FPUs contribute to the protection of civilians and also support police operations.

The training comprises 25 participants from Ethiopia, Rwanda and Uganda; these are EASF Member States which have pledged FPUs.
