Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

AUC Experts Assess EASF's C3IS Capability

Two officers from the Communications' Informations Systems' (CIS) Department of the African Union's Commission (AUC) held a two-day meeting with their counterparts at the EASF Secretariat in Karen, Nairobi, on 18th and 19th June 2018.

The meeting, which is the first in a series of planned engagements with Regional Mechanisms (RMs) and Regional Economic Communities (RECs), aims at establishing sustainable links among AU, RMs and RECs in the field of Command & Control, Communications Information Systems (C3IS). A harmonized approach in this area will ensure that the five Standby Forces on the African continent will roll out similar C3IS capabilities able to interface and communicate with one another without constraints.

Opening the meeting at the Secretariat on behalf of the Director, the Head of Peace Operations' Department (POD) Brigadier Albert Kendagor thanked the team for selecting EASF as a pivotal starting point in this endeavor. In the year 2017, EASF received robust C3IS equipment for its Forward Force Headquarters (FFHQ) from the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark and the United Kingdom. This equipment ensures that the Standby Force can deploy communications' networks in any terrain within a short period of time.

The Head of POD was assisted by the Head of Finance and Administration, Colonel Leterbrhan Kahsay.
