Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

NARC's Delegation Visits EASF Secretariat

A delegation of officers from the North Africa Regional Capability (NARC) led by its Executive Secretary, Brigadier General (Ret) Ahmed Hamaida Altajouri, visited the EASF Secretariat in Karen, Nairobi, on 10th April 2018.

As a Regional Standby Force for the North African States, NARC plays a similar role to that of EASF in matters of peace and security in it's region. Established in 2007, the NARC Secretariat coordinates the development of the Northern African capabilities consisting of military, police and civilian components.

The delegation's aim was to acquaint itself with EASF Structures and Components with a special interest in the operations of the Planing Element (PLanElm). Lesson learned from EASF's recently concluded Field Training Exercise (FTX) 2017 would also assist NARC in planing its first ever FTX.

The African Standby Force draws its peace keeping capacities from five Regional Mechanisms (REMs) and Regional Economic Communities (RECs) on the continent. These are, the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF), the North Africa Regional Capability (NARC), Economic Community of Western Africa States (ECOWAS), Economic Community of Central Africa States (ECCAS) and the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC).
