Category: News

The Eastern Africa Standby Force launched the Civilian Foundation Course at the Humanitarian Peace Support School (HPSS) on 22nd March 2021 in Embakasi, Nairobi.

The Joint Chief of Staff, Brig. Gen. (Dr) Osman Mohamed Osman officially opened the course on behalf of the Director, Brig. Gen. Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa.

The Civilian Foundation Course provides professionals who have a substantive background in a relevant field with foundational knowledge and skills needed in Peace Support Operations (PSOs). The course also introduces the structures and specific functional units in peace operations, mission mandates and lessons learned from previous missions. Moreover, the course contributes to the creation of a sense of common identity among future mission members who have different professional, organizational and cultural backgrounds, and encourages cooperation during future field assignments.

A total of 30 trainees, drawn from EASF Member States, are taking part in the course which will come to a close on 2nd April 2021. The course is fully funded through the Africa Peace and Security Architecture (APSA IV) programme.
