Category: News

A delegation comprising members of EASF's management led by the Director, Brig. Gen. Getachew Fayisa, paid a courtesy call to the Japanese Ambassador to Kenya, His Excellency Amb. Horie Ryoichi at the Embassy in Nairobi on 30th April 2021.

During the meeting, the EASF officials updated Amb. Ryoichi on the accomplishments of the Standby Force ever since its inception in 2004. Brig. Gen. Fayisa took the hosts along the path which the regional peace keeper has walked up to the attainment of Full Operational Capability (FOC) status in December 2014. Since then, the Standby Force has been enhancing and maintaining its capabilities in terms of equipment and personnel, ready to be deployed in peace missions, should need arise in the region or elsewhere.

The EASF team pointed out critical areas within the Planning Element (PLANELM) which need more focus in terms of technical support in the near future, namely, the Maritime Cell and the Air Planning Cell.

Japan is one of the economically advanced countries which came together to form a group called "The Friends of EASF". This group meets periodically with EASF officials in order to discuss how it can assist the Standby Force in various capacity building initiatives.

During the meeting, the Director was accompanied by the Head of Administration and Finance Ms. Lina Peggy Hoareau, the Joint Chief of Staff Brig. Gen. Dr. PSC Osman Mohamed Abbas Osman and the Military Assistant, Lt. Col. Boniface Chomba.

Hosting the guests together with the Japanese Ambassador was the Defence Attache at the Embassy of Japan.
