Category: News

The Civilian Component of the Eastern Africa Standby Force started a four-days' Civilian Roster Recruitment and Verification exercise at the Kenya Commercial Bank Leadership Training Center in Karen, Nairobi, on 23rd November 2021.

The exercise was officially opened by the Director of Foreign Services' Academy within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Michael Oyugi accompanied by the EASF Director, Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa.

The exercise aims at verifying the deployment suitability of civilian personnel from the Republic of Kenya who have been trained for Peace Support Operations (PSO). The exercise will see a number of PSO Trained Civilians from Kenya being evaluated in accordance with African Union's rostering principles. A substantive number of those interviewed will join the African Standby Capacity; this marks yet another milestone which consolidates EASF's leading role in providing the Continental Standby Force with highly trained personnel ready and willing to roll out their acquired skills in peace keeping activities.

Accompanying the EASF Director were the Joint Chief of Staff Brig Gen Dr PSC Osman Mohamed Abbas, the Human Resource Officer, Colonel Viator Niyonyabo, the Head of Civilian Component, Mr Kedir Ababulgu Ali, the Military Assistant Lt Col Boniface Chomba, Coordination and Rostering Officer, Mr. Michael Charlette, Training, Planning and Evaluation Officer Ms Octavia Rose, and the Component's Administrative Assistant, Ms Fridah Mungania.

The Civilian Recruitment and Verification exercise, which comes to an end on 26th November 2021, is funded through the African Peace and Security Architechture (APSA) programme.
