Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

Preparations for EASF Day in Burundi in Full Gear

The Eastern Africa Standby Force is holding its first ever EASF Day Burundi in the capital city, Bunjumbura on Friday 19th April 2018. EASF days in Member States aim at demystifying the entire scope of Peace Support Operations (PSOs) by making the public understand the responsibilities and mandates of the regional peace-keeper.

In a series of scheduled meetings lined up in preparations for Friday's event, the EASF Forward Team, led by the Director Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh, held discussions with the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Internal Security PC Melchiade Ruceke in Bunjumbura. A second round of talks was held with the Inspector General of Police, Police Commissioner Andre Ndayambaje.

During the two meetings, Dr. Bouh informed the two leaders of the recent accomplished activities and achievements the Standby Force has made. The two Government Officials assured the Director that the Internal Security Ministry has put adequate measures in place to ensure that the EASF Day in Burundi will proceed as planned.

In the later part of the afternoon, the Director held one more meeting with Minister for Defense, Honorable Emmanuel Ntahomvukiye at the Ministry's Headquarters in Bujumbura. The meeting reflected at length on the path EASF has walked ever since its inception in 2004. The discussions focused on largely on the Standby Force's current status and its strategic growth in future, taking into account foreseeable challenges as well as the therein embedded opportunities.

The EASF Forward Team comprises the Director, the Human Resource Officer, the Military Chief of Staff, some Members of Staff and the EASF Media Team.
