EASF Benchmarks Against Continental Early Warning System

Category: News

A team of experts from EASF's Peace Operations' Department took part in a two day benchmarking exercise against the Continental Early Warning System (CEWS) of the African Union, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 22nd and 23rd May 2018.

The Standby Force is in the process of operationalizing its Early Warning Mechanism (E-WARN) and therefore needs to pick best practices from organizations which have gained considerable experiences in this field over time. Further, cooperation and sharing of vital information among the African Union, Regional Mechanisms and Regional Economic Communities could provide an avenue of timely intervention in order to avert potential conflicts in the region and beyond.

In 2017, the EASF team conducted a similar benchmarking exercise at the Headquarters of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) from 17th to 19th July in Abuja, Nigeria.
