EASF Participating in Civilian Strategic Support Group Meeting

The Eastern African Standby Force is participating in the African Union's 2018 Annual Meeting of the Civilian Strategic Support Group (CSSG) which started on 17th October and will come to a close on 18th October 2018 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Civilian Strategic Support Group, established in May 2015 in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, is a platform to enhance the operational effectiveness of the Civilian Component in the African Union's Peace Support Operations (AU PSOs) and to provide advice to the AU on the relevance, roles, functions and responsibilities of civilian personnel in AU PSOs.

The 2018 CSSG Meeting aims to explore at length the current mechanisms to deploy and employ civilians in PSOs. The meeting is expected to come up with advice for the African Union on how to address prevailing challenges in engagement of Civilians in AU PSOs.  

Attending the meeting are the EASF Director Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh, the EASF Liaison Officer to AU Col. Abdilrashid Mohamed Ali, the Head of Civilian Component Mr. Steve Lalande and the EASF Rostering and Coordination Officer Mr. Augustine Mukomeza.
