Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

EASF Takes Part in AU's Retreat on Peace, Security and Stability

Category: News

The Eastern Africa Standby Force is participating in African Union's "9th High Level Retreat on the Promotion of Peace, Security and Stability in Africa" which is being conducted from 25th to 26th October 2018 in Accra, Ghana.

Representing EASF at the Retreat is the Director, Dr. Abdilahi Omar Bouh.

The Retreat was established in 2010 in the context of the Africa Year of Peace and Security and has become the central forum for Special Envoys and Mediators working on Africa to share experiences and best practices in the area of conflict prevention and peacemaking.

The 2018 Retreat heavily reflects on “Strengthening the African Union’s Conflict Prevention and Peacemaking Efforts” as its overall theme, with particular emphasis on the different strategies and approaches used by the AU, the progress on the AU conflict prevention and peacemaking mechanisms and recommendations for strengthening them to adapt to the nature of contemporary conflicts in Africa.

The convention provides an opportunity for discussion and reflection on how to take forward the implementation and operationalization of the recommendations on preventive diplomacy and mediation contained in the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) 2016-2020 Road-map.
