Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

Youth for Peace Seminar Rolled Out in Seychelles (3)

The Eastern Africa Standby Force launched the Youth for Peace seminar in Victoria, in the Republic of Seychelles on 1st December 2021.

The two-days' seminar seeks to sensitize young people on the essence of maintaining peace in the Eastern Africa region as well as on the entire African continent. The main objective of the seminar is to dissuade the youth from violent actions and facilitate their meaningful participation in all spectrums of peace and security in the country. This engagement is the second one in line with African Union's Youth Program following a similar activity that EASF conducted in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in the course of the year 2021.

Officially opening the Youth for Peace seminar was the Principal Secretary of Youth Mr. Jean Louis. The theme of the event is  ‘Promoting Peace, and Protecting the Environment'. The opening ceremony was also attended by the EASF Director Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa. Another official from the Government of Seychelles attending the event was Mr. Steve Lalande, who is the Director of Regional Affairs, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Tourism in the Republic of Seychelles. Mr. Lalande is a former Head of the EASF Civilian Component.
 
During the ceremony, Director Brig Gen Fayisa was accompanied by the Head of Administration and Finance Ms Lina Hoareau, the Head of Peace Operations' Department Brig Gen Henry Isoke, the African Union Youth Ambassador for Peace for Eastern Africa region Ms Emma Ng'ang'a, the EASF Information Manager Mr. Jules Hoareau, and the Administrative Assistant Ms. Salome Ndichu.

After the opening ceremony, the Director paid further courtesy calls to the Chief of Defence Forces, Brigadier Michael Rosette, the Commissioner of Seychelles Police, Ted Barbe, and the Principal Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Viviane Fock Tave.
