Main Planning Conference Commences

The Eastern Africa Standby Force started the Main Planning Conference for the upcoming Command Post Exercise (CPX 21) in Nairobi, Kenya on 26th of July 2021. The Conference is aimed at confirming and validating the proposed working documents prepared during the Initial Planning Conference.

The 5-days conference will conduct an in-depth analysis of the roll-out, play and conclusion of this exercise scheduled to take place in November, 2021 in Kenya.
 
The EASF Director, Brigadier General Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa, who was also the Guest of Honor, officially opened the conference.
 
In his opening speech, the Director welcomed the participants from EASF Member States and thanked the Government and the People of the Republic of Kenya for their warm welcome and hospitality. He also extended his appreciation to the African Union through the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) programme, for sponsoring the Conference.

The Command Post Exercise (CPX 21) which is to be held in Nairobi in November 2021 is named “Mashariki Salaam III.”  When explaining the purpose of the exercise, Director Brigadier General Shiferaw said, “The aim of the Command Post Exercise (CPX) code named ‘Command Post Exercise Mashariki Salaam III’ is to develop, consolidate, maintain and test the capability of EASF in planning and conducting multidimensional operations both in operational and strategic levels.  

The exercise will present an opportunity to exercise tools as well as the Command and Control element of deployed forces on African Union’s mandated Peace Support Operations (PSOs), in order to sustain the full operational readiness of EASF’s Rapid Deployment Capability.

This conference takes up from the Initial Planning Conference which was held in the Union of Comoros in April, 2021.
