EASF Wraps Up Regional Cybersecurity Awareness Workshop in Kigali

Kigali, Rwanda – 12 September 2025 – The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) successfully concluded a five-day regional cybersecurity and cyber terrorism awareness workshop hosted at the Paramount Hotel in Kigali. Held under the theme “Think Smart, Stay Safe: Youth Against Cyber Threats,” the workshop brought together more than 50 participants from EASF member states to build awareness and resilience against emerging digital threats.

The workshop focused on equipping youth and professionals with practical knowledge and tools to combat cyber terrorism, enhance digital safety, and foster cross-border collaboration.

Representing Rwanda’s National Cyber Security Authority (NCSA), Ms. Ghislaine, Cybersecurity Standards Officer, delivered remarks on behalf of the CEO. She commended EASF for its commitment, stating: “We truly value the collaboration with EASF in building youth capacity. Cybersecurity is no longer just an IT issue, every individual using the internet is now part of the digital ecosystem.”

EASF’s representative, Major Faustin Ngaboyimanzi, emphasized the need for united regional action: “This workshop has created a vital platform for dialogue and learning to address the rising threats posed by cyber terrorism and violent extremism. Let’s continue the partnerships we’ve built here and turn these insights into actionable strategies.”

The lead facilitator, Dr. Martin Koyabe, praised Rwanda’s progress in digital governance and stressed the importance of long-term investment in cyber education: “Understanding cybersecurity is an ongoing journey. This training lays the foundation for a network of young digital defenders across the region.”

He also noted plans for mentorship and continuity via digital platforms, with the aim of creating standardized curricula for use across EASF member states.

Youth participant Rodrigue Hahozayezu expressed heartfelt appreciation on behalf of attendees, highlighting the relevance of the training to national and regional security. Kevine Akouteta Limurerwa shared the key takeaways from each day, ranging from cyber threat awareness and counter-terrorism financing to digital forensics and policymaking. “We leave this workshop informed, inspired, and committed to being ambassadors for cyber awareness,” she said.

The workshop concluded with a certificate ceremony, celebrating the dedication and growth of the participants and reinforcing EASF’s role in strengthening cyber resilience across Eastern Africa.
