CPX on the Drawing Board
Command Post Exercise or CPX is a simulation to test the readiness and capacity of the EASF as part of the ongoing programme aimed at ensuring the full operational readiness’ of the standby force. The CPX is also aimed at testing, evaluating the various Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other relevant
operational documents of EASF.
In accordance with the EASF approved Calendar of Activities 2021, EASF has launched the Initial Planning Conference (IPC) in the Union of Comoros, on Sunday 28th March, 2021. The aim of the conference is to develop the plan that will guide the CPX due to take place in November 2021.
The Director of EASF Brig. Gen. Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa in his opening remarks took the opportunity to welcome all participants to the Initial Planning Conference and thanked the Union of Comoros for hosting this vital conference.
Brig. Gen. Fayisa informed the participants that the CPX 2021, will be anchored on the focus to maintain and enhance the Full Operational Capability (FOC) which will be achieved by practicing EASF’s operational readiness on how to plan force generation, deployment, sustainment and recovery of a multi-national and multi-dimensional force. The Director further informed the participants that the success of CPX 2021 will depend on the outcome of the Initial Planning Conference and therefore urged all participants to participate fully throughout the session that will see the development of a detailed report on the exercise specifications and technical support requirements which will eventually form the basis of the Main Planning Conference (MPC).
The Guest of Honour Hon. Youssouf Mohamed Ali from the Union of Comoros officially opened the IPC at the Reetaj Hotel in Moroni. In his speech, Hon. Youssouf noted the major achievements by EASF that have increased regional cohesion and showed commitment to enhance and strengthen the regional cooperation, such as, the successful conduct of Command Post and Field Training Exercises. He stressed that the activities indicate the attempts made so far to strengthen EASF and pave way for building an integrated institution in spite of the varied memberships drawn from various backgrounds and cultural diversities.
The Initial Planning Conference is sponsored by African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) and is being attended by participants from Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda and Officers from EASF Secretariat, PLANELM, Force HQs, Logistics Base and Technical Advisors.
