EASF Scales Up the Maritime Component
EASF conducted a workshop for programming the development of the maritime component for the period 2017 – 2020 in Nairobi Kenya from 20th to 24th June 2016. The objective of the workshop was to prepare a comprehensive and detailed plan depicting
how EASF realizes the strategic goals and objectives for the maritime component as outlined in the EASF Strategic Plan.
Since 2012 EASF has been conducting a cycle of training activities including Maritime Task Force Commanders Course (MTFCC) and Search & Rescue (SAR) training as well as facilitating Cutlass Express participation. The Maritime component forms part of the safety and security coordination mechanism in the region and is within the overall framework of the strategic plan 2015 – 2020 which focuses on training in maritime logistic and law enforcement.
A key outcome from the workshop was a detailed and comprehensive plan portraying the development of the individual capacities. This will facilitate development of annual plans for the period.
The workshop was attended by senior staff officers from the EASF Planning Element (PLANELM), naval officers from the Danish Naval staff and technical advisers from the Nordic Advisory Coordination Staff (NACS).
