Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

Nigerian NDC Delegation Visits EASF Secretariat

A delegation from the Nigerian National Defence College conducted a study visit of the Eastern Africa Standby Force at the Secretariat in Karen, Nairobi on 14th March 2022.

The delegation, led by Maj Gen E.V. Onumajuru was received at the Secretariat by the EASF Director, Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa together with other senior members of the management.

During the day's briefings, the visitors were given an elaborate insight into the journey EASF has walked ever since its inception way back in 2004. The regional peace-keeper attained its Full Operational Capability (FOC) in December 2014 and has since then, among others, rolled out a considerable number of Elections' Observation Missions in the Eastern Africa region.

EASF has continued to maintain and enhance its FOC through capacity building in form of training. These capabilities are maintained in Member States ready to be deployed, should the Standby Force be mandated to do so by the African Union at any time.

The visit coincides with EASF's roll-out of Command Post Exercise (CPX) 2022 code named Mashariki Salaam III which will be conducted from 21st to 31st March 2022.
