His Excellency, Azali Assoumani, President of the Union of Comoros, hosted a delegation from EASF during a courtesy call at the capital city, Moroni on 8th April 2017. In a brief statement, President Assoumani noted the security threats that the

Eastern Africa region is facing and expressed appreciation to the regional leaders for the ongoing efforts to address these threats.

He emphasised the importance of a collective strategy which is necessitated by the spill-over effect of conflict across borders. “Terrorism has no visa and no passport ,” he said. He reiterated full support of his Government in the work of EASF as a key player in matters of peace and security alongside other regional and international organisations with similar mandates.

The EASF delegation was led by Amb Chanfi Issimail, Director of EASF. Amb Chanfi briefed the President on the progress that EASF has made so far and assured him of the preparedness of the Force to respond to conflict, particularly after attainment of Full Operational Capability in 2014.

President Assoumani expressed confidence in the leadership of Amb. Chanfi and thanked him for having effectively represented the Government and the People of Comoros during his three year-tenure at the Secretariat.

Amb. Chanfi was accompanied by Maj. Gen. Tai Gituai, EASF Joint Chief of Staff, Brig Albert Kendagor, Head of Peace Operations Department, Brig Gen Domitien Kabisa, Force Commander, Col Seppo Maatta, EASF Techical Advisor and Lt Col David Chesire, Military Advisor to the Director.
