Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

Training on ASC Roster and Database Management

A comprehensive training on African Standby Capacity (ASC) Roster and Database Management was conducted successfully at EASF Secretariat in Nairobi, from 15-19 August 2022. A team of experts from the African Union led by Mr. Eustace Chiwombe, Chief of Capability Unit, accompanied by personnel from ACCORD and UNOAU, paid a courtesy call on the Director of EASF, Brigadier General Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa on Monday 15 August 2022. The visit was based on a request by the EASF for training on ASC Roster and Database Management. EASF personnel from the civilian component, ICT section and HR office attended the training, which ran over the course of the week.

One of the strategic goals of the Eastern Africa African Standby Forces (EASF) is to identify, recruit, interview and roster specialists in different fields as a preparation for future comprehensive peace support interventions. The main objective of the training is, therefore, to build the capacity of its personnel in a bid to ensure that EASF delivers its mandate of rostering civilian experts as per AU standards.

EASF has been tasked by the AU to set up a roster of suitably qualified civilian experts available for deployment in peace support operations in Eastern Africa or elsewhere on the African continent.
