EASF Participates in Small Arms Survey MPOME Workshop

The Eastern Africa Standby Force took part in a two day regional workshop organized by Small Arms Survey, in collaboration with the International Peace Support Training Center (IPSTC), on 13th and 14th March 2018 at IPSTC in Karen, Nairobi, Kenya.

Small Arms Survey is a global center of excellence whose mandate is to generate evidence-based, impartial and policy-relevant knowledge on all aspects of small arms and armed violence. Located at the Graduate Center in Geneva, Switzerland, it is the principal international source of expertise, information and analysis in this field. It acts as a resource center for governments, policy makers, researchers and civil society.

The workshop, themed "Making Peace Operations More Effective" (MPOME), aimed at addressing recurrent and previously underestimated loss of arms and ammunition from peace-keepers deployed in diverse missions. In order to effectively reduce the loss, Small Arms Survey seeks to  deepen the understanding of the scope of the loss by rolling out a series of regional conferences which will develop training modules and good practice guidelines. The development of mechanisms to improve stockpile security and administrative oversight will be one of the key goals of this project.

The EASF Team during the workshop comprised the Director, Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh and the Head of Peace Operations' Department, Brigadier Albert Kendagor.
