EASF Conducts Tree Planting in Burundi

EASF conducted Tree Planting in the Bujumbura Province of Burundi, on 25 May 2022, as part of the Youth for Peace Project. The major objective of the event was to promote and sensitive the youth of the EASF Member States on two key messages, viz.: protecting the environment and promoting peace.

The tree planting event had huge participation by youth leaders from EASF Member States, EASF delegates, youth as well as residents from the local community. The Minister of National Defence and War Veterans of Burundi, H.E. Mr. Alain Tribert Mutabazi, who graced the event by planting a tree, made remarks at the ceremony. In his remarks, he reiterated the commitment of the Government of the Republic of Burundi to environmental protection and empowering the youth. He thanked the EASF Secretariat for holding the two-day Peace for Youth seminar and tree planting event in Burundi. The PLANELM Joint Chief of Staff of EASF, Brig Gen (PSC) Dr. Osman Moahamed Abbas also made remarks at the tree planting event on behalf of the EASF Director, Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa. Brig Gen Abbas said, “Tree planting is more than just an environmental protection activity,” adding that “it helps reduce the carbon footprint, reduce pollution, and enhance the quality of life.” He further said that young leaders from EASF member states and from the Host Nation, the Republic of Burundi, have done an exemplary deed. The Youth for Peace Project is funded by the European Union through the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA)
