EASF Conducts Civilian Roster Verification in Ethiopia

The Eastern Africa Standby Force successfully carried out a civilian roster verification exercise from 20th to 22nd March 2018 at the Force Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The launch of the verification exercise was graced by the Director General of Multilateral Cooperations, Ministry of Defence of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Brigadier General Buhi Taddesse. In his keynote speech, Brig. Gen. Taddesse reflected on the mandate of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA); a foundation upon which EASF continues to build capacity willing and able to engage in conflict mitigation processes within the region.    

After welcoming the exercise participants to the EASF Force Headquarters, the Force Commander, Brigadier General Alaadin Osman Mirghani, elaborated widely on the essence of multidimensionality in carrying out PSOs. The adopted holistic approach allows for engagement of seasoned professionals from diverse fields to work together towards the achievement of a common objective, he said.

During the first day of the exercise, Ethiopia's Civilian National Focal Point, Mr. Dawit Assefa confirmed that a total of 70 PSO trained civilians were ready for the intense evaluation to be conducted by the EASF Team in accordance with African Union's rostering principles. A substantive number of those interviewed would thereafter join the African Standby Capacity. This is yet another milestone which consolidates EASF's leading role in providing the Continental Standby Force with highly trained personnel ready and willing to be deployed in peace keeping missions.

The EASF Team comprised the Human Resource Officer, Colonel Viator Niyonyabo, the Head of Civilian Component, Mr Steve Lalande, Coordination and Rostering Officer, Mr. Agustine Mukomeza, Training and Evaluation Officer Mr. Ali Madi Mourdi and the Component's Administrative Assistant, Ms Fridah Mungania.
