Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

EASF Director Holds Discussions with Japanese Mission to AU

Category: News

The Director of EASF, Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh held a key meeting with the Deputy Head of Japanese Mission to the African Union Mr. Tetsuya Unno who was accompanied by the Japanese Defence Attaché to Ethiopia, Colonel Hidemasa Murata on 5th October 2018. The meeting took place at the Japanese Mission to African Union Offices in

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Dr. Bouh informed both Mr. Tetsuya Unno and Colonel Murata about the diverse activities the regional peacekeeper has been undertaking in 2018, in line with the EASF Calendar of Activities for the current year.

The Director's tenure has been characterized by a desire to build bridges across the global arena and also making sure that the Standby Force maintains its critical mass in capacity building such that EASF can be able to respond to any crisis in the region and beyond if tasked to do so by the African Union at all times. The maintenance of such capabilities across all EASF ten Member States requires enormous human and financial resources; so far, partners as well as EASF Member States have been able to support the maintenance and enhancement of the Full Operational Capabilty (FOC) acquired by the Standby Force in December 2014.

In the past, Japan has been an ardent supporter of EASF's capacity building activities and has expressed willingness to partner with the Standby Force in this area once again.

During this meeting, the Dr. Bouh was accompanied by the EASF Force Commander and an Officer from EASF Logistics Base in Addis Ababa.
