EASF Conducts Roster Recruitment and Verification in Uganda
Kampala, Uganda – The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) conducted a Roster Recruitment and Verification exercise in Uganda from March 24-28, 2025, at the Golf Course Hotel and Hotel African in Kampala. The event aimed to enhance the EASF and Africa Standby Capacity (ASC) civilian database, recruiting skilled experts for upcoming peace support operations.
The exercise began with a one-day workshop attended by 63 participants, led by EASF Joint Chief of Staff Brigadier General Stephen Kashure, and Assistant Commissioner from Uganda’s Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MoDVA) Mr. Arthur Kamya.
In his opening remarks, Brig. Gen. Kashure highlighted the complex geopolitical challenges in Eastern Africa, such as regional conflicts, economic difficulties, and the impacts of climate change. He emphasized the importance of regional cooperation and urged for more effective recruitment strategies for peace mission personnel.
EASF’s Civilian Planning, Training, and Evaluation Officer, Allen Ruhangataremwa, presented on the Roster Verification process, focusing on the ASF Policy Framework, selection criteria, and updates to the ASC database. She stressed the importance of maintaining an updated civilian roster and the role of Ugandan experts in future missions.
The recruitment process saw 127 applications, with 83 candidates interviewed. After thorough evaluation, 66 candidates were selected for the roster, while 17 did not meet the required criteria.
This exercise is part of EASF’s ongoing efforts to build a qualified roster for peacekeeping operations and to strengthen regional stability through the African Union’s initiatives.
