Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

EASF Conducts Staff Rotation at the Secretariat

In accordance with its official Staff Rotation Matrix, the Eastern Africa Standby Force bid farewell to several outgoing officers and welcomed their replacements at the Secretariat in Karen, Nairobi, on 25th August 2021.

The ceremony was led by the Director, Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa. In his keynote speech, Brig Gen Fayisa thanked the Government of the Kingdom of Finland, the Republic of Djibouti and the Federal Government of the Somalia Republic for having availed highly qualified and dedicated officers to serve EASF, and by extension the Eastern Africa region. The Director observed that the success of an organization like EASF depends on multicultural knowledge and experience, cooperation, communication, good discipline, initiative, good listening skills, among others.

Brig Gen Fayisa said, "May I mention here that our staff rotation system allows us to tap from the diverse skills and experiences of personnel from all our Member States. EASF is therefore a strong demonstration of our regional and cultural integration for the sake of Peace and Security in our Region".

The incoming officers include a police officer from the Republic of Kenya and two military officers; one from the Republic of the Sudan and the other from the Republic of Djibouti. At the same time, EASF welcomed new members of staff from the Kenya Defence Forces.

The ceremony was attended by a relatively small number of members of staff, owing to Covid-19 Guidelines which have been laid down by the Ministry of Health.
