Youth Conference Kicks Off in Nairobi

The African Youth Ambassador for Peace (AYAP) Eastern Africa, in collaboration with the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) launched a two-days'

Stakeholders' Consultation meeting on 28th October 2021 in Nairobi, Kenya.

During the opening ceremony, the AYAP Ambassador Ms Emma Nganga outlined the importance of the two-days conference which primarily aims at strengthening youth capacities in the region. Ms Nganga explained that her office would relentlessly seek to create awareness and sensitization on the role of youth in peace and security. She elaborated on the vital role of diverse stakeholders in creating enabling environments for youth empowerment so as to counter their vulnerability to elements that threaten peace and security in the region.

The Guest of Honor during the opening session was a representative from the Ministry of ICT Innovations and Youth Affairs, Ms Nadia Abdalla.  Ms Abdalla reiterated that capacity building for young people would undoubtedly lead to constructive participation of youths in matters of peace and security as well as nation building.

Additionally, the conference also seeks to provide a platform for meaningful engagement between youth and various stakeholders thus bridging the gap between the two parties and consequently bringing to light the efforts of young people at grass roots' level.

The meeting, which comes to an end on 29th October 2021, is supported by the African Union Youth for Peace (Y4P) Program.
