Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

EASF Strengthening the Spirit of Greater Eastern Africa- Courtesy Call on Eritrean Embassy - Nairobi, Kenya

For a long time, the Eastern Africa region has had to contend with a myriad of challenges, which perpetuate cyclic conflicts in the region. These challenges include, proliferation of small arms and light weapons, human trafficking, terrorism, violent

extremism, effects of climate change, environmental degradation, among others.

In the spirit of building bridges among all stakeholders within the region and to effectively cultivate a common front to address these problems, senior officials from the Eastern Africa Standby Force Secretariat paid a courtesy call to the Ambassador of the State of Eritrea to Kenya, His Excellency Amb. Beyene Russom in Nairobi on 30th September 2021, to discuss these shared concerns and build ground for greater cooperation among the Eastern Africa regional states.

The State of Eritrea has long standing historical links with EASF,  having been among the founder  Member states of  the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), under which the then Eastern Africa Standby Brigade Coordination Mechanism (EASBRICOM) was domiciled.

The EASF delegation was led by the Director, Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa, who was accompanied by the Head of Administration and Finance (Ms Lina Hoareau), the Head of Peace Operations' Department (Brig Gen Henry Isoke), the Joint Chief of Staff (Brig Gen Dr. PSC Osman Mohammed Abbas), the Legal Officer (Col David Okello) and the Administration Officer (Maj Gaudencia Githinj).
