Maritime Task Force Commanders' Course Concludes
The year 2016 has seen the Eastern Africa Standby Force put a strong emphasis on upscaling its Maritime Cell by conducting a number of trainings and workshops. In the middle of the year, a two week Search and Rescue Course was successfully completed
in Rwanda followed by a programing and development workshop in Nairobi, Kenya. The aim of the Nairobi workshop was to prepare a comprehensive and detailed plan depicting how EASF realizes the strategic goals and objectives for the Maritime Cell as outlined in the EASF Strategic Plan.
On Friday 16th December 2016, the regional peacekeeping force achieved yet another Maritime Cell's milestone after having successfully completed a Maritime Task Force Commanders' Course (MTFCC) which started on the 5th December 2016 in Mombasa, Kenya.
The aim of the course was to train and equip senior maritime officers with skills that enable them command a task force during peace support operations. The training was also meant to enhance peace and security in a multidimensional environment. The course participants gained considerable mission planning skills which are tailor made for the cell's Mission Headquarters' roles and responsibilities.
The course was supported by the Nordic Countries and facilitated by a team of international as well as regional experts with valuable experience in this field.
